In Turkey, 47.2% of the total net electricity consumption is used by the industrial sector, and more than 70% of the electricity consumed in the industry comes from electric motors. In other words, approximately 35% of the country’s total net electricity consumption is used by electric motors in manufacturing industry activities.
The Project for Promoting Energy Efficient Motors in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Turkey
Replacing inefficient electric motors used in industry with energy-efficient motors will mark the beginning of a significant transformation that will contribute to the Turkish economy with an annual energy saving equivalent to 34 billion kWh. The TEVMOT Project supports this important transformation in SMEs to promote more efficient energy use, encourage a transition to a lower-carbon economy, and provides guidance for access to technical consulting and financing. The project also contributes to the goal of “Preventing Global Warming and Climate Change” by promoting energy system efficiency, supporting Turkey’s efforts to combat climate change. To initiate this change, TEVMOT is conducting pilot studies in 7 selected organized industrial zones (OSBs).
